Kenneth George Street
Kenneth George Street, known lovingly as Ken and Papa Ken, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21st, 2026, at the age of 73 years, in Regina, Saskatchewan surrounded by his family.
Ken was born February 1st, 1953, to William and Frances Street. He grew up on the family farm north of Stoney Beach, SK and attended the Stoney Beach school and then Peacock Collegiate in Moose Jaw, SK for his high school years. Growing up, he enjoyed playing hockey, baseball, and curling, all within the Stoney Beach community.
Ken met the love of his life, Shelley Ambrose, at a Bethune sports day and soon after they were married on February 16th, 1974. They built their life on the same family farm that he grew up on. This is where they raised their two children, Julie and Rick. He grain farmed and raised cattle, as well as a full-time career at Kalium (Mosaic). He spent over 25 years running “The Dreadful Dredge.” When he decided to completely retire, they built a house in Belle Plaine, SK. This is where he was the happiest.
Ken was very social and enjoyed being around all his friends and neighbours, who all became like family. He loved to host parties to watch all his favourite teams. He cheered on the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Maple Leafs, and once in a while, the Edmonton Oilers. He enjoyed the weekly rounds of golf with his buddy Glen and openly admitted that they both liked to cheat. Ken was extremely meticulous about his vehicles, his boat, yard, and garage. There was never a blade of grass out of place and his vehicles looked like they belonged in a show room. The garage was immaculate and everything in it was polished and shiny.
The heart of Ken’s world was his family. He and Shelley spent 52 years together. Travel was their most favourite thing to do, and they most often had another trip planned so there was always something to look forward to. They travelled to almost every beach destination in Mexico and the Caribbean. Although Puerto Vallarta was the favourite, anywhere with a beach, palm trees, and cold drinks was fine.
Ken’s greatest title of all was Papa. He was everyone’s Papa Ken. His three grandchildren – Janaya, Kianna, and Joel, were his pride and joy. In recent years, three step-grandkids joined the family. He spent many hours at dance competitions and recitals, and freezing cold hockey rinks. He loved every moment cheering them on at their activities. In his eyes, his grandkids were the best out there.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Frances Street; sister, Jean Wiebe; son-in-law, Michael Gerbrandt; father-in-law, Bill Ambrose; mother-in-law, Jean Bellan; and nephew, Jason Pritchard. Ken is survived by his wife, Shelley; daughter, Julie Gerbrandt (Todd Mowrey); son, Rick Street (Miranda Maracle); grandchildren: Janaya Gerbrandt (Garrett Heschel), Kianna Gerbrandt (Drew Molde), and Joel Gerbrandt; Todd’s children: Ryder, Carys, and Grayden Mowrey; sisters-in-law, Sharon Pritchard (Ed Goodwin) and Shannon (Dave) Jennings; brother-in-law, Dan (Theresa) Wiebe; along with five nephews and one niece.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, lend a helping hand to someone in need. When you’re done, pour yourself a cold one and sit down and enjoy a “Happy Hour.” It’s 5 o’clock somewhere! Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Dear Shelley and family: The Billan family send our condolences and love upon hearing of the loss of Ken. We very much admired his sense of humour and gentle disposition. Thinking of you all during this challenging time.
To Shelly and family, deepest sorrows from Valerie and myself. Ken was one of them fellows that is going to leave a big void. However during his time with you he made many memories that you will cherish and hold on to forever.
Ken’s positive,good-natured approach to life(and golf)was a pleasure to experience. Bad shots were more entertaining than the rare good ones . Will always treasure all the time spent with Ken.
Shelley & Family my condolences go out to you all. Our family moved to Lloyd/Mary Veale’s homestead (where they still live). I went to North Stony Beach school where Ken & I were the only 2 in Grade 8 before going to Peacock. It has been years since I have seen Ken but it sounds like he lived a very Happy, Fulfilled Life. I am thinking of you all at this time as a Dear Friend from the past!

Shelly, Elaine and I send our condolences at this difficult time. We both have many fond memories of Ken dating back to high school many years ago.
My condolences Shelley and family. He will certainly be missed. When I was a kid growing up in the Stoney Beach area, Bill and Cookie were friends of my mom and dad and Ken was like a big brother to me. He was always so good to me. We also went to North Stoney Beach school together where I was in about grade 1 when he was in grade 8. Ken was always one of my favorite people and he even taught me how to ride a motorcycle for the 1st time when I was about 9, on his old red Honda. He was truly one of the good guys which I am pretty sure anyone who met him would agree with. I think he got it from his dad. RIP old buddy.
The tribute was beautifully written. We are very sorry for your loss and are keeping you in our thoughts.
Hugs to you all
Shelley
