WINNIFRED JOYCE MARKEWICH (née: Thomson)
November 25th, 1935 – January 1st, 2026
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Winnifred Joyce Markewich, at the age of 90 years. Winnie passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1st, 2026, with family by her side. She is now reunited with our dad, Jack Markewich, who no doubt welcomed her with open arms.
She was predeceased by her parents, John Thomson and Louis Hagan, and stepfather, Bert Hagan; as well as her siblings: Kenny Thomson, Lillian Honeysett, and Evelyn Cartlidge. Winnie will be deeply missed by her children: Darlene (Jeff) Young, Kandy (Brad) Hennenfent, Randy (Andrea) Markewich, Rod (Barb) Markewich, and Jeff (Angelique) Markewich; grandchildren: Cristin (Jarod), Karlee, Marcus (Sarah), Callum, Sarah (Neil), Adam (Crystal), Erik (Jonny), Daniel (Brynn), Kathryn, and Claire (Tyson); and great-grandchildren: Jonas, Theo, Teigen, Grayson, Annette, Cameron, Louie, and Colton. She was also cherished by her sister-in-law, Pat (Tom) Olson, and their family, and by her dear friend, Rhea.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Winnie was known for her generosity, her love of painting, knitting, and crocheting, and her warm, welcoming home — always filled with friends, family, and her famous perogies and cabbage rolls.
Our family is grateful for the many loved ones who recently celebrated her 90th birthday with her and visited in her final days. We are forever blessed by her love.
A Celebration of Life for Winnie will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family at the passing of your mom Winnie. I believe you were our neighbours when we lived on the 900 block of Iroquois Street. I was very young at the time but I believe I did babysit Darlene and Kandy! Good old days in MJ. Please know that we are thinking of you in your time of loss. With deepest sympathy.

Winnie was a great friend and Avon customer for many years. I sure will miss our chats.
Well well, a great friend of mine has passed into eternity, I knew her and Jack for several years, also their son Jeff. My last chat with Winnie was at Christmas 2025. May God grant her a place in Heaven..
My condolences to the Markewich families.
Winnie was my cousin, and one of the many Bruvold cousins that I actually knew.
My mother was to many Aunt Edna and we spent lots of time visiting with Winnie and Jack when they brought Aunt Louise and Uncle Bert to visit Mom.
I was so sorry to see that she had passed away.
Cherish your memories, as I will.
