Arthur Schindel
Arthur “Art” Schindel aged 88 years of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, passed away on Friday, December 26th, 2025. Art was born on August 20th, 1937, in Birmingham, Saskatchewan, to Katherine and George Schindel. Raised on the family farm with two sisters and five brothers, Art learned early the values of hard work, responsibility, and quiet perseverance. He attended Wilton School in Birmingham.
With his father’s early passing, Art stayed on the farm, farming with his mother and siblings. As his older brothers married and moved on, Art continued farming until June 1961, when he enrolled in a correspondence course in mechanics.
On June 8th, 1961, Art married Evelyn Hauser, the love of his life and lifelong partner. He began his mechanics career at Schlamp’s Garage in Grenfell, Saskatchewan. There, Art and Evelyn welcomed their son, Timothy Paul (November 17th, 1962), and their daughter, Sandra Laurel (March 10th, 1966).
In December 1966, Art joined TransCanada Pipeline and moved his family to Ignace, Ontario, where they lived for 16 years. During that time, Art and Evelyn poured themselves into a community Sunday school that grew into a church-planting work. Art served in steady, practical ways — alongside the pastor and board — helping establish what would become New Life Church. That church continues to serve and impact lives today, a lasting testimony to Art’s quiet faithfulness.
In October 1980, Art and Evelyn were surprised and delighted by the arrival of a third child, their son, James. Tragically, James was taken from them on April 24th, 1981, in a car accident. In a season of deep grief, Art’s steadfast faith and courage helped carry his family through.
In September 1983, Art transferred to Caronport, Saskatchewan, and the family settled in Moose Jaw, where they enjoyed many happy years.
He was predeceased by his beloved son James, his parents, four siblings, three sisters-in-law, and one brother-in-law. Art is survived by his devoted wife, Evelyn; son, Timothy (Barb); daughter, Sandy (Tracy Rogerson); grandchildren: Brittany, Zack (Krysten), Tyler, Michelle, Evan (Alexia), and Adam (Christin); great-grandsons, Harris and Felix; siblings: William, Martha, and Erwin (Lorraine); as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
Art will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grand and great-grandfather, faithful servant, and steady presence.
“Precious in the sight of the LORD
is the death of his faithful ones.” — Psalm 116:15

Auntie Evelyn, I find it so hard to believe that Uncle Art is gone. We had so many amazing times together and the last time you were over he and I had a good conversation about how things have changed and how they will change in the near future. It wasn’t possible for Doug and I to be there today, but you are in my prayers.
