Shirley Genevieve Schaeffer

1935-2025

Shirley Genevieve Schaeffer, aged 89 years of Moose Jaw, SK passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15th, 2025.

She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Jack Schaeffer; and her brothers, Wayne and Clifford.  Shirley is survived by her children: Mary Ann (Chris), Brad (Jackie), Ted (Tara), and Vince (Nadia); grandchildren: Talissa (Ging), Kaegan (Bailey), Saige, Sadie, Emma, Andrew, Emily, and David; and great-grandchildren: Lowen, Fern, Jaxon, and Josie.

Shirley was born in Rockglen, SK and grew up in Kincaid.  After serving in the military, she settled in Moose Jaw where she met and married Jack in 1961 and raised their four children.  Shirley loved gardening and her house and yard were always filled with flowers.  She was an avid sports fan and could be found cheering very loudly at all her kids’ activities, local sports events, and Rider games.  She was also an incredible knitter, continuing to do so up to her passing.  Over the years she made hundreds of sweaters, mittens, toques, and blankets for her family and friends, and to donate to the Transition House and Humane Society.

In her later years, Shirley’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was an avid reader and kept up with all her sports events, be it the Riders, Jays, hockey, golf, or curling.  She enjoyed her morning visits with the ladies at Fairford Place, popping over to the casino, and heading down to the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Club every Saturday to attend the meat draw.

A Come and Go Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 22nd, 2025, starting at 1:00 p.m. at the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Club, 279 High St W, Moose Jaw, SK.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Cara Ashworth, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
