Robert James Brown
Robert James Brown aged 83 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away on Saturday, September 13th, 2025.
Jim was born September 21st, 1941 to Malcolm MacKinnon Brown and Edith Ada Ruth (née: Ward). He was part of the Brown Family that grew up at 913 Albert Street in Moose Jaw, SK and was the fifth of seven boys. He was the fifth youngest in the family of thirteen; thus, his lucky number of 5.
Jim earned his Journeyman Bricklayer Certificate and had a hand in the construction of many buildings in Moose Jaw. Many of his siblings have a touch of his handiwork with their house, garage, or fireplace.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Gordon and Walter; sisters: Muriel Hallett, Ruth Kober, and Bonnie Gruell; and in-laws: Ellen Brown, Beverley Brown, Eddy Kober, and Vern Ritchie. He was also predeceased by an infant son, Shaun James (1968) and Janice’s mom, Patti. Jim is survived by his siblings: Elsie (Ivan) McNeilly, Malcolm (Lynne), Colin (Grace), Mary Ritchie, Rodney (Bonnie-Lea), Heather (David) McMillan, and Ronald (Cheryl); brother-in-law, Earl Gruell; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Janice (Randy) Stevens; grandchildren: Joshua (Kathy), Matthew (Megan), Michelle (Sean), and Karissa (Joseph); and great-grandchildren: Royce, Terri, Arla, Austin, Luke, Chet, Grant, Mark, Jaden, Dean, Thea, Grace, and Reuben.
Jim suffered with alcoholism for many years. He resided at Pioneer Lodge for the last 3 1/2 years and accepted the sobriety that came with these years.
The Recreation Department was what really brought him back to a healthy Jim, he was affectionately called “Pops” by the Rec staff. He enjoyed playing cribbage, carpet bowling, floor curling, and Bingo, and he enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow residents. The care he received and participation in a loving community was outstanding.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, October 6th, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery. Pastor Scott Elger will officiate, and a time of fellowship will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the Harvey Room at Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Flowers are gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Jim’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
