Gwendolyn Eva Huber

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Gwendolyn Eva Huber (née: Ross) after an extremely tough battle with cancer at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on Friday, June 18th, 2021, with daughter Betty by her side.  Gwendolyn Eva was born on June 5th, 1941 in Bengough, Saskatchewan to Inez Ross and David Barr Ross.  They moved to Weyburn, Saskatchewan in 1947 and then later settled in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in 1955.  Gwendolyn met John Huber and they were married December 19th, 1959, and later raised 3 daughters.  Gwendolyn loved to bake, crochet, read books, play Uno, Skip-Bo, and play computer games on Facebook.  She loved spending time with family.  Facebook was a great way that she could keep in contact with family and friends.  She loved to garden and thoroughly loved planting many flowers in the yard in the summer.  Gwendolyn loved watching curling, Blue Jays baseball, WWE wrestling, Dr. Pol, and several other shows.  She worked as a Dietary Aide at Valley View Center for 41 years, where she met many friends and coworkers.  She thoroughly enjoyed her job.

She was predeceased by her parents, David Barr Ross and Inez Ross; husband, John Huber; brothers: Evans Ross, Bob Ross, and Jim Ross; sisters, Dorothy Morris and Isabella Hunt; as well as many other family members.  Gwendolyn is survived by her children: Cheryl, Heather (Barry), and Betty; grandson, Ryan (Jason); great-grandchildren: Colin, Loic, Charlie; granddaughter, Crystal (Shawn); great-grandchildren, Taylor and Jackson; granddaughter, Darla; granddaughters, Desiree and Nakita; granddaughter, Lindsey (Len); great-grandchildren: Keyarah, Jaelyn, Landyn, and Lennox; grandson, John; great-grandson, Bentley; grandson, Dustin (Angelina); great-grandchildren: Marcus, Mayombe, Nyatuoy, Chol, Lam, and Nya; granddaughter, Melissa (Solaya and Anika); and special dog, Lexi who loved her Grandma dearly.  She will also be lovingly remembered by her brothers-in-law, Fred Huber (Doreen) and Carl Thronberg; sisters-in-law: Freda Fockler (Dave), Kay Belisle (Ray), Marie Anderson, Ruby Huber, and Ella Ross; godson, Raymond Huber and goddaughter, Jean Thronberg; as well as many other nephews, nieces, family and friends.

A special thank you to her amazing doctor, Dr. Robert Haver (also colleague Dr. Samantha Henley) who have gone above and beyond looking after Gwendolyn and making sure she was well looked after, Oncologists Dr. Bashir, Dr. Jancewicz and Dr. Panjewani, RN’s April and Tanya, TLC Pharmacy and the staff for all they have done for her over the years, Medical Imaging at Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital and Medical Imaging at the Regina General Hospital, Ambulatory Care RN’s at Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital, and the wonderful Home Care Nurses Kim and Pat who recently came on board to help with Gwendolyn’s medical needs.  A special thank you to Aunt Doreen and Uncle Fred for everything you have done for Mom and looked out for her over the years, and also to Mom’s neighbors Chris Bolianitz and Morris Cassavant for everything you have done for her over the years. We would also like to thank Moose Jaw Funeral Home.

The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 24th, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw.  Reverend Doug Shepherd will officiate and interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gwen may be made to The Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658 Station Main, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7 or Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre St, Regina, SK S4P 2R3.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

We send our condolences to Gwen’s families. I worked with Gwen at Valley View Centre. She had an infectious laugh, and a great sense of humor.
    Rest in peace Gwen.

Our sincere sympathies to all the family in the passing of my very dear Auntie Gwen (or Gwenie as my Mom would call her). I have so many positive memories of our summer visits to Moose Jaw when we lived in southern Saskatchewan…sometimes with family and sometimes on my own via Greyhound. Too many to mention but the picnics in the Wild Animal Park, the visits and tours at Valley View Center, eating at Kresge’s lunch counter and shopping, especially buying “high heel” shoes at the Army and Navy for 50 cents (fun as a very young girl, and they fit perfect). I also remember her beautiful nails, painting them as she enjoyed her coffee….and always the lipstick kiss she left on my cheek. Coming to stay with her as a young girl was always the highlight of my summer…always so warm and welcoming with open arms…always fun! Thanks for being such a loving Auntie to me… Marjorie

I worked with Gwen, many years ago at Valleyview, when I was a summer relief worker earning my way through university.
She was always good to me.
