SHARON LOUISE TOEWS (née: Foley)
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Sharon Louise Toews (née: Foley) at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta on Friday, September 18th, 2026. She was comforted by the presence of her children, Rick and his wife Pam, and Sherri and her husband Jason. She had, only days before, been able to relocate to Calgary from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, because of her long-standing desire to spend her final years with her family of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends who lived in Alberta.
Sharon was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on August 19th, 1954, the youngest of six children born to parents Jim and Sylvia Foley. Birth complications meant that Sharon had to struggle for life, and she was left with some lifelong challenges as a result. Her father, Jim, worked for the Canadian National Railway, and his transfer to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba in the fall of 1954 meant that the rest of Sharon’s childhood and adolescence was spent in that city and Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Sharon married her first husband, Tom Toews, in 1969 and they had three children: Rob, Rick, and Sherri. She was predeceased by her eldest son, Rob, earlier this year. In later life, Sharon was blessed to have Stretch (Bill) Robertson as her beloved dear friend and soul mate for almost 30 years, until his passing in 2017. After Stretch passed away, Sharon chose to move to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, to be where her sister, Marg, and brother, Dave (and his wife Diane) lived. In Moose Jaw, she found a happy and supportive community of friends at Victoria Towers, where she lived, and at The Salvation Army Church, where she worshipped.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 24th, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at The Salvation Army Church, 2 Wintergreen Drive in Moose Jaw. Major Byron Kean and Leftenant Linda Kean will officiate, and interment will take place at a private family gathering in Alberta. Flowers are gratefully declined.
