Neufeld, Lawrence Edward
Lawrence Edward Neufeld
We are saddened to share that Lawrence Edward Neufeld, aged 81, of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, passed away on Wednesday, October 14th, 2026. Larry was born in Moose Jaw on February 19th, 1945, to Katherine (née Wiebe) and Peter Neufeld.
Larry was very active as a child, nicknamed “Butch”; he spent his time playing outside, riding his bike, fishing, and camping. He loved model cars and trains and developed an early interest in taking things apart to see how they worked, then rebuilding them.
Larry’s love for cars led him to become an automotive mechanic in his late teens and early 20s. He spent some of his favorite years working at an auto shop in White Rock, BC. After returning home to Moose Jaw, Larry worked at CGTX as a railcar mechanic and became a father to Peter, Tracey, and Robin. He was a very engaged father, dancing with his daughters with their feet on his and doing silly things just to make them laugh.
Later in life, he took a job in the maintenance department at Moose Jaw Union Hospital, where he met and fell in love with his wife, Diane, who worked in admitting. With children from previous marriages, Diane and Larry created a blended family that they deeply loved and cherished. Larry became a stepfather to Shane and father to Travis. Their house became the family’s Grand Central Station, hosting birthdays, celebrations, special events, and holidays (most importantly, Christmas). Larry loved always having family around, even when he seemed a bit grumpy about it.
Always the builder, Larry built everything Diane could dream up, including renovations, expansions, and updates to the house they would grow old together in. He also built desks, cabinets, and sizeable playhouses for his grandchildren in Kentucky and Moose Jaw. He was a gifted carpenter whose work and attention to detail was unmatched for someone who was self-taught and did everything himself. He was a jack-of-all-trades, with a seemingly unending list of skills.
Larry loved going on trips with Diane, including their first trip to Mexico, their Las Vegas wedding, and their honeymoon in Hawaii. He also loved the many road trips to visit his daughter, Tracey, in Louisville, Kentucky, as well as the family trips to Disneyland, Disney World, Universal Studios, Six Flags, and other theme parks, often navigating big metropolitan traffic in his beloved van or motorhome.
Larry was also passionate about all things golf. He was a regular at Lynbrook Golf Club, sometimes golfing twice a day during the season. He watched the PGA Tour as much as he could and even attended a few tournaments with Diane. He also deeply loved cruising around in his golf cart.
Larry retired in 2005 and, in his later years, spent his time napping, relaxing on the couch, building in his woodworking shop, and spending quiet nights at home with Diane, watching crime shows, murder mysteries, and other TV and movies. His retirement years were peaceful, happy, and full of simple pleasures like barbecued steaks on warm summer days, falling asleep on the couch in the glow of a Christmas tree, and seeing his family gathered around the table at every holiday.
But more than anything, Diane was the very center of Larry’s life. In her, he found purpose, joy, and meaning. With Diane, he built a beautiful life that he truly loved and felt at home in. They did everything together. For Larry, Diane was the perfect friend, partner, wife, and co-pilot. When Diane was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, Larry stepped up and became her primary caregiver, staying strong even when things got hard. In the years, months, weeks, days, and hours leading up to his passing, he did everything he could to take care of her, make her laugh, and show her that she was loved beyond measure.
Larry will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 44 years, Diane; their children: Peter, Tracey, Robin (Gord), Shane (Miranda), and Travis (Carly); grandchildren Taylor (Levon), Tanner, Olivia, Dani, Kati, Thayne, Mackinlee, Tanaya, Keelee, Kamden, Ashlea, Michael (Amy), Amara, Hudson, and Avianna; and his many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Katherine Neufeld; siblings Dorothy (Ronald), Lee (Harry), Clarence (Rose), Jim; and mother-in-law, Ellen.
Larry’s family will hold a private celebration of his life. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Andrew Pratt, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
