Gilbert Dan Matwe

Gilbert Dan Matwe, aged 75 years of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children, on Sunday August 16th, 2026.  

He was predeceased by his parents, Dan Matwe and Mary Matwe (née: Slobodian); and brothers: Karl, Iggy, Vic, and Leon.  Gil is survived by his children: Don, Dennis, and Darla; their mother, Patricia (Murrell); his many grandchildren; sister, Gloria; and brother, Ed.  

Gil was born on November 27th, 1950, in Moose Jaw, where he grew up and had wonderful friends.  He spent many years doing electronic repair service before moving to Lethbridge, AB in the 80’s, where he painted, sandblasted, and combined his TV and Stereo repair service with his love of Pawn Shops, doing electronic service work.  Gil appreciated a simple, quiet life but had many friends who appreciated his humour.  He enjoyed motorcycle trips, and had a passion for music, stereos, and Pink Floyd especially, that knew no equal.  

The family would like to thank Darla Matwe and Derrick Pohl, for providing years of care for Gil, and the nursing staff of SHA (Extendicare, Moose Jaw) for the years of compassion and service provided while caring for our dad throughout his illness.  

We will miss his sharp wit and bright personality.

A Time of Fellowship and Memories will be held on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, from 1:00 -3:00 p.m. in the Harvey Room at Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations in Gil’s name may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301 – 2550-12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Shirese Noble Funeral Director 306-693-4550
