DAVID GLENN JERRED

May 17th, 1946 – September 17th, 2026

With sadness in their hearts, the family of Dave Jerred – Doreen, Brett (Tanya), Krista, Rayne, and Mike, share of his passing on Thursday, September 17th, 2026.  

Dave’s life journey began on May 17th, 1946, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where Ike and Laura Jerred welcomed their firstborn. Dave’s connection to Buffalo Pound Lake developed over 70 years ago.  Summers were spent at the family cabin with his younger sister Marsha and brother Jeff, along with longtime family friends, the Riddell’s and other fellow founders of the Parkview development.  Legend has it Dave was the best slalom skier on the east end of the lake.  The love of lake life carried on through the next generation, as nieces, nephews and friends of Brett and Kris recall fond memories of time spent there.  

Dave’s sharp mind and steady work ethic led him to a career as an Electrical Engineering Technologist with SaskPower in Regina, SK.  More importantly, it led him to Doreen Loken, who would become his wife of 56 years.  Married in 1970, they welcomed their son Brett in 1973.  Soon after, they moved to Calgary, AB where Dave joined the City of Calgary Electric System.  Their family became complete with the arrival of their daughter Krista in 1974.  

Eventually, home called Dave back to Moose Jaw, where he joined the family business, Arrow Electric.  He became actively involved in the local construction community and served as a past President of the Moose Jaw Construction Association for a year.  “The Shop” became a place where he shared his knowledge, quietly mentored young electricians, and led by example through hard work, patience, and integrity.  Among those he proudly taught the ropes was his “favourite son-in-law,” Mike Seip.  Thanks to the current Arrow family, Dave remained an unofficial part-owner, making regular visits to the business he took much pride in, still holding a key to this day.  

Alongside his dad and brother Jeff, Dave spent years restoring classic British motorcycles.  In later years, the motorcycles gave way to woodworking, and many make-work projects, his final creation being a handcrafted urn for his special sister-in-law, Sandra Kimball.  The garage was more than just a workshop – it was a gathering place.  Friends knew the door was usually open, and the fridge was stocked for anyone who stopped in.  For the past 25 years, Dave and Doreen enjoyed their home in Sun Valley, building many meaningful friendships and strong community connections.  They could often be found working away on his list of chores, all to earn the reward of a quiet evening on the deck admiring the lake.  Dave cherished memories made while travelling, from annual trips with the Cypress Hills crew during the 80s, to exploring the Hawaiian Islands, parts of the US, Mexico, and most memorably a trip to Europe with Brett.  

Dave knew that life could bring joy and profound heartbreak.  At just eight years old, he experienced the loss of his three-year-old brother, Donald ‘Bussy’, Marsha’s twin.  Decades later, the family endured another devastating loss when Dave’s beloved 13-year-old grandson, Deshien Jerred Seip, passed away in 2011.  

Nothing mattered more to Dave than providing a good life for his family that he was deeply proud of.  Being Grampa to Deshien and Rayne brought him much joy, especially visits from the cherished grandkids and all the building, exploring and mess-making that came with it.  More recently, he looked forward to a FaceTime call from his ‘Raynebow’ and delighted in hearing of her latest diving adventures.  Dave was also quietly proud that he spent the last eight years living alcohol free.  

Along with Dave’s immediate family, he will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Marsha (Malcom Johnson) and her step-son Aaron Johnson; brother, Jeff (Linda) and their children Adam (Beanie and their son Andreas) and Heather; in-laws: Kaye (Kevin) Engel, Karen (Dennis d.) Baker, Lynda (Rod) Anderson, Sandra d. (Kim) Kimball and Dallas Loken (Wayne Baerwalt); several nieces and nephews; as well as many good friends made throughout the years.  

You are invited to join the family in Celebrating Dave’s Life and Legacy on Saturday, September 26th, 2026 between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. at the Grant Hall banquet room in Moose Jaw, SK.  As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Moose Jaw Humane Society in honour of Dave, a lifelong cat-dad, or the Canadian Cancer Society.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Shirese Noble Funeral Director 306-693-4550
