Heward, Cyril Raymond
Cyril Raymond Heward
Cyril Raymond Heward of Chaplin, Sask. Passed away at Swift Current Hospital on July 26, 2026 at the age of 90 years. Cyril was born in Brandon, Manitoba on May 16, 1936. He married Gloria Gammel on August 17, 1957 in Moose Jaw. Cyril was predeceased by grand-daughter, Gabie; parents, Ray and Ivy; mother and father-in-law, Ted and Irene Gammel and sister, Rose Marie.
With his passing he leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Gloria; four daughters: Debbie (Glenn), Lorrie (Randy), Michele (Ron) and Jodie; eight grandchildren: Chad (Kim), Kerri (Andre), Melissa (Jesse), Shaun (Jayda), Amber (John), Shelby (Matt), Maranda (Scott), and Connor; 13 great-grandchildren: Kade, Daesha, Zariah, Caysen, Cruz, Noah, Nash, Mason, Jesse, Kenzi, Mirai, Gracelyn and Matthew; sister, Ann (Frank) and brother, Brian.
Cyril worked road construction for seven years, then started work at Sask Minerals in Chaplin in 1964 until retiring in 1996. He worked for most of his 32 years as a journeyman welder. After retiring he worked as a farm hand for Lorne McInnis and later Greg and Barb McInnis. Cyril enjoyed farming and had a love of horses, which he had many over the years. He always had a faithful companion following behind him, one of his many dogs he had over the years. Cyril had a great love of anything sweet, along with a great cup of coffee. He loved his family and was a pillar of strength for his wife and kids. Cyril was a kid at heart and would play hide and seek, ball and golf…he had a way of making things enjoyable. When he wasn’t working, Cyril enjoyed dancing with his wife, as they were known for their ability to glide around the dance floor. He loved music, singing and playing hockey. He spent years as a goalie and later coached the Chaplin Senior hockey team. He also worked alongside his wife, helping her brother, Calvin Gammel, with the Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Cyril was a joyful soul and was usually pranking one of his grandkids. He had a smile that lit up the room. Cyril was strong and steady and will be forever missed. Until we meet again in our Heavenly home with the Lord. Miss you Papa….always and forever. In keeping with Cyril’s wishes, a Private Family Service will take place with interment taking place in Chaplin Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
