Herring, James William
JAMES WILLIAM HERRING
It is with deep sadness that the family of James (Jim) Herring announce his passing on Friday, October 9th, 2026, at the age of 88 years. Jim was born on the farm near Mitchellton, SK on December 29th, 1937.
He was predeceased by his parents, Everett and Alma (Maudie) Herring; wife, Jean Herring; and brother, David (Brian) Herring. Jim is survived by his children: Steven (Phyllis) Herring, Michael Herring, Diane (Timothy) Gass, and Cindy (Vernon) Stevens; grandchildren: Kenneth Herring, Kara Bastarache, Lindsey Stevens, and Kyle Stevens; and great-grandchild, May Bastarache. Too many friends and family to mention will also miss his smile.
Jim served an initial term with the RCAF, as a Radar Tech, releasing to return to Moose Jaw to raise his growing family. He tried his hand at many trades before settling in for a long career at Trans Canada Pipelines. Upon retirement, he used his woodworking talents to open a small business. He wasn’t one to be kept down. He took up hang gliding and down hill skiing at an age when most people would be giving up those pastimes. His pride and joy was the acreage where Jim and Jean spent close to 50 years. He loved his gardens and especially the beautiful pond and waterfall he built. Many hours were spent enjoying the peace it brought. The “farm” was a place for friends and family to gather. Many events were held there over the years – family gatherings, weddings, neighbor get-togethers, and jam sessions. There was always fun to be had.
A Private Family Service will be held at Sunset Cemetery where Jim will forever look out towards his acreage and the beautiful sunsets. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Shirese Noble Funeral Director 306-693-4550
Jim was such a treat when he was hang gliding with Craig and the gang. Sympathy to the family
I’m sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. I liked him a lot and his wood working was beautiful. I still miss your Mom, too. Take care. Sincere condolences.
