Hanson, Alan John
ALAN HANSON
April 25th, 1947 – October 3rd, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Alan John Hanson on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital, following complications from Parkinson’s.
Al spent much of his life working as a heavy-duty mechanic in the mining industry. His career took him across Canada, the United States, and even Greenland. Along the way, he met many wonderful people and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime.
While working in Lynn Lake, Al discovered a love of flying with his good friend Ron “Moose” McNeil. That passion eventually led Al to purchase a plane of his own. Al finished his mining career at Cameco’s McArthur River operation, where he worked for 25 years – an accomplishment and chapter of his life of which he was incredibly proud.
Retirement gave Al more time to enjoy the simple things in life. He especially enjoyed afternoons spent with one of his closest friends, Bill Tighe, at the Eagles Club, along with his daily $40.00 on the VLTs at Chillers. Those who knew Al will remember not only the places he went and the work he did, but the friendships he made along the way.
Al is survived by his wife, Betty Ann; daughter, Suzanne (Vince) Shivak; grandson, Xander; son, Andy (Melissa); brothers, Ron (Heather) and Cliff (Jean); sister, Sharon (Jack) Ireland; sisters-in-law, Lynn Erickson and Jackie (Reg) Erickson; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the surgical unit at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Al. We would also like to thank all of the family and friends who came to visit Al during his time in hospital. We know Al knew you were there.
A Celebration of Al’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 17th, 2026, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Eagles Club, 561 Home Street in Moose Jaw. In lieu of flowers, donations in Al’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
